Overview
Whitcomb Community Park is located in Richmond’s East End adjacent to Whitcomb Court and community center. The park was formerly the location of the Whitcomb Court Elementary School. To the east is a brownfield parcel on top of a former landfill. The Whitcomb Community Park renovations seek to enhance existing park features and improve access to recreational resources for the community.
Park renovations enhance existing amenities by expanding the multi-use trail, providing accessible routes for all residents to utilize, and transforming the existing low areas into a bio-retention pond to collect stormwater and grow native plants.
Beyond the existing amenities, new park features include a basketball court, shade structures, playgrounds, a splash pad, and a large community garden with raised beds. Additional trees and diverse plantings, including a meadow, have been added to shade and blend with the existing vegetation.
