Overview
Timmons provided geotechnical site assessment, testing of asphalt and subgrade soils, and prepared a geotechnical engineering report with recommendations for repairs at Rolesville Middle School Track, Sanderson High School Track, and East Wake High School Track. Timmons’ geotechnical staff completed an initial site assessment by a senior geotechnical engineer followed by a geotechnical field team using a core rig to cut asphalt cores in the tracks. The asphalt cores were explored for quality and potential reasons for failure and the need for resurfacing. The subgrade stone was removed and measured utilizing hand tools. Following the removal of the stone, shallow hand auger borings were advanced down to a depth of 2’ to 3’ below the track’s surface. Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) testing was also completed during the hand auger borings. DCP testing was utilized to assign a stiffness or density to in-place soils encountered in the borings. The results were compiled into a geotechnical engineering report with an analysis of the observed failure along with suggestions for a remediation plan.
