Overview

Timmons Group designed the upgrade of the existing Poor Creek Pump Station and the new Poor Creek Force Main. The design expanded the pump station’s capacity from 12 to 17.2 million gallons per day (MGD) peak flow to accommodate increased development in the service area. The design included the installation of five 150-horsepower (HP) dry-pit submersible pumps on variable frequency drives, two 60 HP equalization basin pumps, and a standby generator. Additional improvements included modifications to the influent channel, the addition of surge relief valves, and the redesign of electrical, control, and ventilation equipment. The design process incorporated LiDAR scanning and 3D modeling of the interior of the existing pump station.

Timmons Group also designed a new force main to replace the aging one that runs through Petersburg National Battlefield. The new design consists of a 13,700-linear-foot, 24-inch and 30-inch force main, which ultimately discharges to the South Central Wastewater Authority Facility. The force main bypasses the Battlefield and runs primarily along active roadways in the City of Petersburg, requiring a Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plan, which Timmons Group also provided.
