Overview

Timmons Group has conducted building assessments at multiple locations throughout the City for multiple reasons, ranging from overall public safety to economic development opportunities. The following is a summary of some of those tasks:

38 and 42 S. Union Street
Timmons Group conducted structural engineering assessments for two historic multi-story brick buildings located at 38 and 42 S. Union Street. Dating back to the early 1900s, both buildings were evaluated through a comprehensive process that included a review of existing documentation, a site visit, and visual and non-destructive inspections. The team documented their findings and prepared a summary report with recommendations for the city.

Fire Station 3 Tower
Timmons Group provided structural inspection services for the brick tower at Fire Station 3 of the Petersburg Fire Department. The tower brick has noticeable cracks at the top, which were of concern for the city. A full visual assessment was conducted, and recommendations were immediately made to ensure the protection of individuals from falling debris. Once that was completed, we developed a report that included multiple details for brick repair, mortar joints, and sealing of cracks.

416 Second Street Site Assessment
The objective of our assessment was to determine the general structural condition of the subject property and review the site for multimodal access and parking related to potential renovation and reuse. The report, including photographs of existing conditions, was provided to document our findings.

Our scope of services included:

  • An on-site visual review and documentation of the general existing construction and overall condition of the building structure and the walkway structure.
  • A review of site access for vehicles and pedestrians.
  • A review of potential parking capacity based on available area and current zoning with potential reuse.
  • Locate and document existing utilities servicing the building structure.
  • Highest and best use analysis with preliminary design concept.
  • Environmental Assessment.

All of the above items were summarized in a report documenting the existing conditions and our findings, including a determination of the Highest and Best use analysis with a preliminary design concept.
