Overview
Timmons Group provided full construction administration services including project management and engineering services for the Connector Rd bridge over the Pentagon Transit Center. The subject bridge is single-span rigid frame structure with arched beams. We worked with the government and the contractor to streamline the repair process and maintain the integrity of historical elements of the bridge. One challenging component was designing the system to support the historic stonework during construction and the stone’s re-use into a modern fully tested barrier that meets current standards.
Timmons Group helped to maintain vehicular traffic above and below the bridge while repairs took place. In order to do so, our team of structural engineers designed temporary access structures that spanned over the roadway below the bridge. Support of excavation was designed by our team to access buried areas of the structure and divide the project into staged construction phases.
Once construction was underway, Timmons Group conducted multiple site visits to perform structural inspections and material testing to ensure work was meeting project specifications and completed in accordance with the strict federal standards.
