Overview
Patriots Landing is a residential development located in New Kent County, Virginia. Within the development limits were four existing lakes that were all connected in series. The dams all fell within the Virginia Division of Dam Safety requirements for State Regulated structures based on the impoundment heights and storage capabilities of the lakes. Timmons Group was contracted to evaluate each of the dams and determine the improvements necessary to achieve compliance with State Dam Safety regulations.
Timmons Group provided inspection, analysis, geotechnical investigation, environmental permitting, engineering design and construction observation services to the developer for each of the dams. All four dams are listed as significant hazard structures with the Virginia Division of Dam Safety.
This project required innovative solutions to resolve the Dam Safety issues. Patriots Landing Pond 4 dam incorporated the use of a labyrinth spillway structure, one of only a few constructed within the state of Virginia.
