Overview
Timmons Group provided site selection assistance, survey, permitting, environmental, landscape architecture and construction administration services for the new Northside Elementary School in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
The school has a capacity of 585 students in pre-k through fifth grade and is on 7.8 acres. The cornerstone from the old school that was built in 1924 was salvaged and is displayed in the new school. The historic stone walls and steps along Caldwell Street were preserved. The compact three-story footprint allow for open play areas. The site features underground stormwater management, a vegetated roof garden and terraced outdoor garden, pervious pavers and play surfacing and native plant materials. LEED Gold or Platinum certification is being sought for the project.
