Overview
Timmons Group provided landscape architecture, civil engineering, geotechnical, and surveying services for the development of Hoover Road Athletic Park in Durham, NC. Identified as a priority in the Durham Parks and Recreation Master Plan, the 50-acre site was transformed into a premier athletic facility to meet the city’s growing demand for recreational space.
The park features four natural turf soccer fields, a practice field, a playground, a shelter, a maintenance and restroom building with a concrete plaza, and extensive pedestrian connections, including sidewalks and walking trails. Supporting infrastructure includes a circulation road, parking, stormwater management systems, lighting, and irrigation.
Timmons Group supported the City of Durham from schematic design through construction documentation, permitting, bidding, and construction observation. Our team also conducted a Traffic Impact Analysis (TIA), assessing site access and nearby intersections to inform roadway improvements, including a new left-turn lane. By enhancing recreational opportunities in eastern Durham, this project provides valuable community space while generating revenue to support facility maintenance.
