Overview
This project consisted of a comprehensive stormwater management plan for the University. The primary need arose from a State requirement to provide Water Quality mitigation and control for all current and planned development on University Property in accordance with the University Facilities Master Plan, which was assumed to be relevant for five to ten years from creation. The entire drainage area to Gross Creek, which contained the two primary University parcels, was modeled hydrologically. The central drainage conveyance system on campus was analyzed. The final product of these analyses was a report documenting the process undertaken and making recommendations for current and future rainfall-runoff needs of the University. Additionally, a final phase of this project included the design of a water quality/water quantity mitigation facility that would allow the University to continue with planned development in accordance with State Requirements.
Aesthetics were paramount when designing this facility incorporating plantings, specialty lighting and an overlook. Landscapes and stormwater treatment cross paths on all projects. Globally, in a University setting, site design should be cognizant of aesthetics and incorporation of people. In performing a comprehensive stormwater management plan by Timmons Group for the University, one component included an opportunistic approach to a stormwater basin capitalizing on ecosystem creation and the development of a student park.
