Overview
Timmons Group provided survey, geotechnical, civil design, and construction administration services for the new $36.5M Lincoln County Courthouse in Lincolnton, NC. The three-story, 105,000 SF facility was designed to meet the county’s growing judicial needs and officially opened to the public in June 2022.
The team performed a boundary survey of the 20.63-acre site and prepared a minor subdivision plat to divide and redefine the courthouse parcel. Site control was established for all surveying activities, including staking for geo-piers, building column lines, basement walls, and proposed utility lines. As-built surveys were conducted throughout construction to ensure accuracy.
Geotechnical investigations required special considerations, as part of the site contained remnants of a demolished building while another portion remained an active parking lot for government offices. Using GPS-located borings and an all-terrain drill rig, the team conducted SPT borings and laboratory analysis to develop foundation recommendations, accounting for existing debris.
Timmons Group also supported the project through bid-phase assistance, construction administration, and stormwater and utility planning, ensuring a seamless and efficient development process.
