Overview
Timmons Group completed the implementation of new trail structures at the Thomas Crowder Woodland Center at Lake Johnson in Raleigh. Timmons Group worked closely with Nature Trails to design and prepare construction drawings for a new set of timber stairs, a 50’ long boardwalk, and a pedestrian bridge (built using fiber reinforced polymers) over a drainage feature in the woods. The structures connect new and existing trails to the Woodland Center, alleviating pressure on an existing crowded trailhead and providing expanded access to a larger trail network.
We took care to protect the sensitive natural features in the park and limit disturbance to greatest extent feasible, including requiring the contractor to hand carry bridge materials to the crossing, use low-ground pressure equipment where feasible, and use low-impact erosion control methods to protect root zones.
