Overview
Jefferson Avenue is rich in cultural history, connecting the Church Hill and Union Hill neighborhoods to downtown. Timmons Group began the process by developing three vision corridor vision plans, based on stakeholder input. The design team is now developing concepts and engagement initiatives for neighborhood associations.
The study area is a mixture of locally owned businesses and residences. The vision is to optimize improve access and mobility for walking and bicycling as the neighborhoods continue to grow and thrive.
Timmons Group designed several traffic calming concepts such as neighborhood circles and bicycle infrastructure to increase safety and comfort along the neighborhood street while reducing vehicle speeds. The designs illustrate ways of connecting Jefferson Avenue to the City’s bicycle master plan, promoting biking as a reliable mode of transportation rather than simple recreation.
