Overview
Jefferson Avenue is an arterial corridor rich in cultural history, connecting the Church Hill and Union Hill neighborhoods to downtown Richmond. Timmons Group worked with the City of Richmond to develop visioning plans for the corridor with significant community and stakeholder input. Designed and developed in phases, the streetscape has undergone a significant transformation to optimize accessibility, promote pedestrian safety, and enhance mobility for cyclists as the surrounding urban fabric continues to grow and thrive.
Timmons Group designed the streetscape and pedestrian spaces, several traffic calming solutions, implemented neighborhood circles and critical bicycle infrastructure to enhance pedestrian comfort while reducing vehicle speeds. Since implementation, the streetscape improvements have played a vital role in activating the neighborhood, encouraging development and reinvestment in the commercial corridor, and reinforcing the sense of historical and cultural identity.
