Overview
This on-going multi-phase stream mitigation bank includes several properties located in Nelson County, Virginia. The first phase of this project included feasibility analysis, concept development, Mitigation Bank Prospectus/Mitigation Banking Instrument development and construction of approximately 1,600 feet of Priority 1 stream restoration, 600 feet of stream enhancement, 1,171 feet of stream preservation, 16.64 acres of stream buffer establishment and planting as well as other stewardship implementation measures related to use of the farm property. Work on future phases of this mitigation bank is currently on-going and involves inclusion of additional suitable lands for proposed stream restoration activities.
Project Highlights
- Facilitated placement of a conservation easement held by the Thomas Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District.
- Worked with multiple landowners for inclusion of adjacent properties into the mitigation bank.
- Successful in facilitating development of non-traditional revenue stream for the landowner to enable conservation based land use for future generations.
