Overview
Timmons Group provided traffic and transportation consulting services for Gateway Plaza, a new 18-story office tower recently constructed along the southern edge of Richmond’s central business district. The block that encompasses the proposed development was formerly surface parking bisected by southbound 8th Street. Timmons Group staff worked closely with the City of Richmond’s Traffic Engineering Department to evaluate the redirection of traffic movements and reconfiguration of the adjacent road network to accommodate both existing and new traffic flows. This included traffic analysis and simulation modeling, preparation of the street and intersection design plans, traffic signal plans, underground utility coordination services, construction plans, specifications and estimates. Peggy Malone Associates performed AM and PM directional turning movement counts and Kittelson Associates developed the Vissim traffic model.
