Overview

Timmons Group provided civil engineering and surveying services for the new Dare County Animal Shelter in Manteo, NC. The 8,800 SF facility replaces an aging shelter and accommodates up to 32 dogs and 60 cats. It includes four dedicated dog yards for isolation, protective custody, adoption showcases, and play areas.

Located on a County-owned site near the Dare County Regional Airport, the project required relocating an existing public dog park to make space for the new facility. Timmons Group conducted a topographic survey of the 4.5-acre site to support site planning and permitting. Our civil design services included access road and parking layout, fencing, stormwater and erosion control design, and a specialized on-site wastewater treatment system to manage animal waste effectively.

This Construction Management at Risk project advanced through a collaborative design process, ensuring a modern, efficient shelter to serve the community’s needs.
