Overview
Timmons provided construction materials testing, geotechnical engineering, topographic survey, site design, and traffic impact analysis for this design-build charter school in Angier. Following the construction of the main building, Timmons provided geotechnical engineering and CMT/SI for an addition.
Carolina Charter Academy focuses on empowering students’ grades from Kindergarten through 8th grade. The new school was designed in coordination with a new subdivision. The site for the Carolina Charter Academy presented many challenges including extensive geotechnical work due to the existing soils. Timmons went through the required permitting steps set by the Town of Angier and the State and was consistently involved during the construction process.
Geotechnical exploration was completed utilizing Standard Penetration Test borings, lab testing of soils, and a geotechnical engineering report preparation. Our report included foundation design recommendations for the proposed building on-site based on subsurface conditions encountered and pavement recommendations for the carpool and bus lanes. Our report also addressed concerns around shallow groundwater encountered on site and created a plan for remediation during construction.
Timmons also provided CMT services. By utilizing both geotechnical engineering services in the planning phase and CMT services during the construction phase, Timmons was able to help minimize waste and provide cost-effective solutions in the field to conditions encountered during construction. This prior insight before construction starts allows us to plan for possible problems and save the client both time and money looking for potential solutions.
