Overview
Timmons Group worked with the Town of Ashland on the restoration of an urban degraded stream. The project site is a parcel of land owned by the Town of Ashland that houses both the Ashland Police Department and Pufferbelly Park. Bisecting the twowas an unsightly drainage ditch that was the storm sewer outfall for over 80 acres of urban area, and also the headquarters to Mechumps Creek, an impaired waterway in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The project included the stream restoration of 210 ft. of an adjacent channel and reconfiguration of the gravel parking lot of Pufferbelly Park to accommodate the installation of riparian buffer along the channel. The project resulted in 9.5 lbs of total phosphorus (TP) removal toward the Town’s Chesapeake Bay TMDL goal and was fully grant funded.
