Overview
Working closely with Albemarle County, Albemarle County Schools and AstroTurf manufacturer, Timmons Group designed the underground drainage systems for these two fields to accommodate the additional stormwater runoff that artificial turf fields produce. The drainage was designed in a way to significantly lessen the impact on the receiving channels at these two athletic field sites. Once installed, the new fields will drain quickly, remain stable under heavy play and will require minimal maintenance throughout the school year.
Both Western Albemarle High School and Albemarle High School followed on the heels of Monticello High School in using the same high-quality turf from AstroTurf. The drainage systems played a keyrole in the long-term “play-ability” of athletic fields, making these state-of-the-art, all-weather fields suitable for both high school sports teams as well as community teams.
