Timmons Group provided civil engineering and land surveying services for this important redevelopment project in the heart of Richmond’s business district.
A five story, 141,000 square foot corporate headquarters for the Media General Corporation. Media General is a communications conglomerate based in Richmond, Virginia. The company’s decision to remain in the City of Richmond necessitated the construction of a new office building.
Surveying and layout of streetscape in this urban environment was a particular challenge. New curbs and sidewalks were designed to match the new building and the existing street.
Close coordination between architect, contractor and Owner was critical to the project. Timmons Group maintained a role through construction and was particularly active in working with the City during the whole process.
Project Highlights
A unique feature of this project was the construction of a tunnel under Franklin Street to connect the new corporate headquarters with the existing Richmond Times Dispatch building. The tunnel accommodates pedestrian and forklift traffic. Timmons Group took the lead in the design of the tunnel and utility relocation. A public sewer was re-routed.
Because this project moved at an aggressive pace, Timmons Group had a major role in working through the City review process.
