Overview
Timmons Group’s Landscape Architecture team collaborated with James River Nurseries to design and build a campus center surrounding the main building entrance to Virginia Hall, the University’s primary administration building. Planting school colors with annuals planted in strategic locations helps invoke a sense of pride in the university for students and visitors passing through the grand entrance onto university grounds from the nearby Ettrick community. Focused around the formal entrance plaza and four beautiful magnolias, the design displays a diverse plant palette that provides year-round interest. Existing walkways and a raised planter are retained for historical significance. Site furnishings are chosen to match ornate railings on the building. By combining historical sensitivity with modern planting schemes, our team transformed a space in need of revitalization. To meet a deadline of the school’s Homecoming celebration, James River Nurseries completed the installation in two days, and this place of respite and magnificent fall color was ready to be enjoyed by all.
