Henrico County celebrated the opening of Short Pump Firehouse 19 with a public dedication on April 28 at the station, 12324 Kain Road. The 11,000-square-foot station opened its doors earlier in March, providing a second firehouse to serve Henrico County.

The Firehouse is located on a 4-acre site and generally consists of parking lots, concrete and asphalt driveways, a detached shop building, dumpster and mechanical enclosures, bio-retention structures and landscaping. The firehouse staffs 31 firefighters and is also home to the Robotics Response Team, which manages the county’s drones, and it is the 21st firehouse operated by the Division of Fire.

Timmons Group worked with architects from BKV Group and contributed surveying and construction administration services for the site in preparation for a bio-retention pond. Site work started in January 2017.

The station was designed and built to meet Silver standards for energy efficiency and sustainability as part of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, program of the U.S. Green Building Council. Once it’s certified, the station will be Henrico’s 16th county government or school building endorsed through the LEED program.
