The Vanguard, formerly an armory by the same name, has been renovated to become a micro-brewery, micro-distillery, restaurant, and live entertainment venue in Hampton, VA. For the first time in 25 years, the doors opened to the public in February 2018.

Timmons Group provided professional services beginning with the definition of Site Constraints and Final Geometrics. The firm also provided surveying of the site and Construction Documents, including civil site plans and planting plans.

The 81-year-old building was constructed as part of the Works Progress Administration program under the New Deal initiative. The architectural style called “moderne,” is representative of the time period between the two World Wars.

Aside from its primary purpose as a military training center or arms storage facility, the Armory also served as a community space. The brick building was used as an auditorium, gym, and concert hall. Although the Armory had been vacant from 1993-2017, it is now returning to its roots as a communal center for the Hampton area.
