Overview

Timmons Group is providing design, bidding, and construction administration services for a sewer collection system in Middlesex County that will deliver public sewer access to four service areas: Topping, Saluda, Deltaville, and Hartfield. Middlesex County will own and maintain the low-pressure sewer collection systems within these service areas, while HRSD will own and maintain the two regional pump stations and interceptor force mains located in Topping and Deltaville. As a result, the project is being designed to meet both Middlesex County and HRSD standards.

Topping Wastewater Collection System – Phase 1
This project involves the design of a new sewer collection system to serve approximately 772 campground sites of the Topping Service Area in Middlesex County, Virginia.

  • Gravity Collection System: The design includes approximately 670 linear feet (LF) of 8-inch PVC piping, four 4-foot diameter manholes, and a flow metering manhole. The gravity collection system will be owned and maintained by the County.
  • Low-Pressure Collection System: The design includes approximately 150 LF of 3-inch and 250 LF of 4-inch HDPE force main. This system will also be owned and maintained by the County.
  • Pump Station: The pump station design includes duplex submersible pumps, a 12’ x 20’ precast concrete control building with a restroom, a 7-foot diameter wet well, an 8’ x 8’ precast concrete valve vault, and an 8’ x 8’ precast concrete instrumentation vault with a magnetic flow meter. Since HRSD will own and operate the pump station, it is designed to meet HRSD standards.
  • Interceptor Force Main: The design includes approximately 16,600 LF of 6-inch HDPE force main. As the interceptor will be owned and operated by HRSD, the design complies with HRSD standards.

Saluda Wastewater Collection System
This project involves the design of a new sewer collection system to serve approximately 153 residential connections, 7 commercial properties, a middle school, and a healthcare facility in the Saluda Service Area of Middlesex County, Virginia.

  • Low-Pressure Force Mains: The design includes approximately 4,200 LF of 2-inch, 3,800 LF of 3-inch, and 1,200 LF of 4-inch HDPE force main. The low-pressure force mains will ultimately connect to an HRSD interceptor force main.

Deltaville Wastewater Collection System – Phases 1, 2, and 3
This project involves the design of a new sewer collection system to serve approximately 690 total connections in the Deltaville Service Area in Middlesex County, Virginia.

  • Low-Pressure Collection System: The design includes approximately 5,500 LF of 2-inch, 35,000 LF of 3-inch, 26,000 LF of 4-inch, 10,000 LF of 6-inch, and 5,500 LF of 8-inch HDPE force main. This system will be owned and maintained by the County.
As the pump station will be owned and operated by HRSD, the design complies with HRSD standards.
  • Interceptor Force Main: The design includes approximately 3,500 LF of 6-inch HDPE force main. Since the interceptor will be owned and operated by HRSD, it is designed in accordance with HRSD standards.
