At Timmons Group, we know that strong teams aren’t just built in the office—they’re built through shared experiences, real conversations, and a supportive community. That’s exactly what our Women in Design Employee Resource Group (ERG) is all about. It’s a space where women across different disciplines, career stages, and locations can connect, mentor, and grow together.
This past year, our Women in Design groups have been busy getting creative, setting goals, and, of course, having some well-deserved fun. From vision boards to plant workshops, here’s a peek at what our groups have been up to:
In Richmond, our Women in Design group mixed networking with creativity during a watercolor card painting event. The event gave everyone a chance to connect while trying their hand at something new.
“Women in Design has been invaluable in helping me build my professional network,” Lee Ann Gudorp, a Principal on our private land development team, said.
“The land development community is small, and as Timmons Group continues to grow, I often find connections with new hires or professionals who have experience in areas we’re looking to expand. I’ve especially benefited from our networking-focused programs. Through Women in Design, we’ve had sessions with Business Development professionals who share tips, along with opportunities to practice 1:1 with other women in the program and even with professionals from other firms in the Richmond area.”
The Raleigh Women in Design crew opted for a spa day, proving that self-care and professional bonding go hand in hand.
“It’s exciting to see more women stepping into engineering and making their mark in the industry,” said Beth Blackmon, a Principal on our residential team.
“Our Women in Design program brings us together through team-building activities that foster friendships, mentorships, and a strong support system—both professionally and personally. When we create an inclusive and welcoming workplace, we empower more women to build successful careers in engineering and beyond.”
Nothing brings people together like delicious food, and our Virginia Beach Women in Design group took full advantage of that with a lunch outing at Cooper’s Hawk, a local winery and restaurant. Over good food and great conversation, they had the chance to network, unwind, and just enjoy each other’s company.
In Texas, the Women in Design group tapped into their artistic side with a painting class, learning new techniques while sharing great conversations. The hands-on experience gave them a chance to explore their creative side in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
To kick off 2025 on the right foot, the Prince George Women in Design group hosted a vision board social. The event was all about setting goals, finding inspiration, and getting creative with their aspirations.
“Being part of our Women in Design program has been an incredible opportunity to connect with women across the firm—both personally and professionally,” said Sarah Bowers, an HR specialist.
“Through shared experiences and thoughtful programming, we create a space where every voice is valued, and growth is championed. As a committee member, it’s inspiring to help shape initiatives that reflect the interests and aspirations of our women, ensuring our workplace remains inclusive, empowering, and ever evolving.”
In Charlotte, the Women in Design crew got their hands dirty (in the best way) with a plant workshop at Plant House. Each member created their own unique terrariums while chatting, laughing, and maybe discovering a hidden talent for plant design.
Our Women in Design program is more than just a series of events—it’s a platform for growth, mentorship, and meaningful connection. As we continue to expand and strengthen our network, we remain committed to fostering an environment where women feel supported, valued, and empowered to succeed.
Through shared experiences, professional development, and community engagement, Women in Design is shaping the future of our industry one connection at a time.
