As we celebrate Great Outdoors Month, we’re highlighting the trail work of our North Carolina Landscape Architecture team! Timmons Group partnered with the City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources to enhance pedestrian connectivity, making it easier for the general public and local residents to access existing parks and greenways through the Neighborhood & Community Connections (N&CC) program. This initiative focuses on creating equitable and accessible green spaces for all community members.

Peach Road Park
Peach Road Park’s community center was previously disconnected from the nearby Renaissance Park neighborhood due to natural barriers and power line easements. Residents had informally created a path through the woods, prompting the City to formalize this path for safer and more reliable access. Timmons Group collaborated with the City to design a trail connection that respected the natural topography and minimized environmental impact. The project also required careful coordination to navigate the challenges posed by the major electrical easement. The resulting trail now provides a crucial connection between Peach Road Park and the surrounding neighborhood, fulfilling a key objective of the City’s connectivity goals.
Crabtree Creek Greenway Trail
In the Gatewood and Lockwood communities, residents faced difficulties accessing the Crabtree Creek Greenway due to an unsafe, informal path along a sanitary sewer easement. Timmons Group addressed this issue by designing a 10-foot-wide asphalt trail near mile marker 5 1/4 at N. King Charles Road that utilized the existing easement to create a formal trail for the adjacent communities. This new path ensures a safe and reliable connection to the greenway, enhancing the community’s access to this valuable green space.
Industrial Drive Greenway Connector
The Industrial Drive project involved realigning a section of the Crabtree Creek Greenway to help stabilize the adjacent Crabtree Creek bank and improve trail safety. The project included constructing a 10-foot-wide asphalt trail parallel to an existing informal path, connecting on-road bicycle and foot traffic improvements on Industrial Drive to the main Crabtree Creek Trail. This required an extensive detour plan to safely reroute pedestrians to the existing greenway during construction until project completion. Timmons Group provided comprehensive services, including topographical survey, tree location, landscape architecture, civil engineering, permitting, and environmental services.
Throughout these projects, Timmons Group’s North Carolina landscape architecture team managed every phase from concept design to construction administration, ensuring timely and budget-conscious completion.
