Lifelong Learning Institute contracted Timmons Group to consult on the redevelopment of an adjacent property to design a parking lot that benefits its staff and program members. The nonprofit based in Chesterfield County provides educational, fitness, and social activity opportunities for adults ages 50 and over who seek continued learning.

As a staple of the Richmond metro area elderly community, Lifelong Learning Institute offers a variety of courses that are designed to engage its members in the arts, technology, economics, fitness, and language studies, among other topics.

Prior to the center’s redevelopment, members walked across a road with no pedestrian guides and parked in an unpaved gravel lot. This created a potentially unsafe and unreliable experience for elderly individuals taking courses at the center. The new development is home to a 63-space parking lot with a stormwater management system that minimizes environmental impact and maximizes space and safety.
