A day in the life of a right of way agent involves a wide range of activities. Some of these duties include traveling to visit landowners, helping landowners and municipalities work together, and addressing any questions or concerns a landowner may have.
We caught up with Greg Yost, a right of way agent, to learn more about his day to day when he travels to meet with landowners.
Greg graduated from James Madison University with a degree in Education. Before coming to Timmons Group, he cultivated 30 years of business to business experience which helped him develop many valuable partnerships. He also has a great deal of prior experience with renewable energy land acquisition.
Greg has recently been working on the Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative project, and that surely has allowed him the opportunity to continue his journeys in the right of way field.
When traveling is a large part of the job, you’re bound to run into some interesting sights, and Greg is certainly not camera shy. Let’s take a glimpse into the ever-changing scenes of a right of way professional!
“Timmons Group’s right of way agents seek to ‘bridge’ the gap by educating Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative (SVEC) landowners on easements and their utility poles,” said Greg.
Greg stumbled upon this antique 1940’s truck while working in Augusta County. “Landowners’ stories of their properties and family history, that often date back to the 1700’s, make our days enjoyable.”
When on site visiting landowners, being cautious of pets on the property is always a good idea. Even roosters can be known for their quirky nature!
Greg is no stranger to the breathtaking views of the countryside. He captured this picture while working on the SVEC project which he said “will replace existing power poles to accommodate the new high-speed link.”
A huge part of his job as a right of way agent involves extending “high touch” internal and external customer service. While out interacting with folks, he stumbled upon the original love shack!
Making furry friends along the way is just a perk of the job. Greg warns that “it’s always wise to have a few ‘doggie treats’ to soothe the savage beasts.”
Sometimes the best picture of all is right under your nose. Greg captured this stark and stylish picture of his shadow showing off his artistic abilities!
While Greg is out traveling, he definitely does run into some unique sights. We appreciate all the wonderful pictures he takes that truly transport us into the day to day life of a right of way agent!
