Timmons Group Makes Waves at 2022 Virginia Water Conference

Timmons Group’s stormwater infrastructure team had the opportunity to attend and participate at the 2022 Virginia Water Conference, presented by the Virginia Lakes and Watersheds Association (VLWA). This conference is one of the largest state conferences in the US focused on water resources.

Timmons Group’s stormwater management professionals are dedicated to helping communities become more resilient through sustainable and low-impact stormwater solutions. By incorporating the latest methodologies and state-of-the-art technologies, we design projects that are responsible and functional.

The Timmons Group team presented to over 400 federal, state, and local agency employees, lake owners & operators, consultants, and product vendors at the conference. Many team members presented their work including our own David Duncan, Alex Lucado, Katie Atkinson, Jessica Slagle, and Hailey Fry.

Each year the Watershed Committee selects the best submission on a project or study addressing or solving a timely and urgent watershed issue or problem anywhere in the Commonwealth of Virginia. This year David Duncan, a project manager in our Hampton Roads office, received the Dave Pearson Watershed Excellence Award for his project on Bringing Environmental and Stormwater Benefits to a Tidal Channel.

“I’m always happy to be part of VLWA and help live out the goals of the organization in regards to promoting watershed sustainability, education of the public, and protecting water resources throughout Virginia in professional work. I am proud to be part of the Kecoughtan project that is helping provide better ecological uplift, a closer connection with nature for the public, and water quality improvements for the City of Hampton,” David said.

Timmons Group would also like to recognize and congratulate Liz Scheessele and Mike Claud, leaders of our Virginia stormwater practice, for their involvement on VLWA’s board this year.

Liz is serving in the capacity of VLWA President this year. Since joining Timmons Group in 2011, she has been managing and performing work under stormwater and other civil municipal engineering annual services contracts for Hampton Roads localities, including the Cities of Norfolk, Suffolk, Hampton, Chesapeake, and Poquoson, and the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission.

Mike is currently serving as the VLWA secretary. In addition to more than 30 years of experience in design and construction of stormwater facilities, Mike leads a team of engineers with a focus on innovative solutions for retrofitting existing sites and facilities that specialize in stream restoration, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, watershed master planning, water quality analyses, drainage system design, stormwater management systems, BMP design, MS4 TMDL compliance, VSMP implementation, dam safety services, and flood mitigation analyses.

Timmons Group would like to thank our partners and colleagues at VLWA for the opportunity to return to this year’s conference and showcase the team’s work. We’ll see you next year!
