#FeelGoodFriday: Timmons Group’s Commitment to Feed More

Are you ready for your weekly dose of #FeelGoodFriday?

The world is spinning very quickly these days… We have truly gotten accustomed to the ebbs and flows of the pandemic lifestyle, and as spring brings warm weather and more opportunities to connect with people outdoors, our lives are becoming busier.

Sometimes it’s nice to stop and smell the roses, but This #FeelGoodFriday we’re stopping to reminisce on the amazing experiences we had during our company-wide food drive in February and March!

On January 27, Timmons Group President and CEO Brian Bortell announced a new five-year partnership with Feed More, Central Virginia’s core hunger-relief organization. Throughout our partnership, it’s our goal to take impactful action to initiate, transform, and sustain our hometown communities’ access to food security.

In a video addressed to our staff, Brian spoke on the importance of the communities we live in. “We talk a lot about community at Timmons Group. Everything from the hospitals we’re born in, to the houses we live in, and the roads we drive on; we play a big role every day in making those ideas become reality,” Brian said. And he’s right. Timmons Group is responsible for a variety of services like water/wastewater management, traffic light design, and the creation of programs that help cities keep track of where their ambulances are on the city grid. We have spent years helping to build our communities up with calculated answers to their everyday needs.

We are subject matter experts in a variety of services: We can reroute sidewalks so folks can access their bus routes or adjust the drainage of a pond so that neighborhood parks don’t flood. While we are experts in a lot of community-oriented services, we realize that we are not the go-to for our neighbors when it comes to food security. That’s why we partnered with the experts at Feed More!

After Brian’s announcement that we would be partnering with Feed More, we held a food drive across our 16 offices nationwide. The month-long drive created healthy challenges between teams, like our Virginia Transportation Design Group 203’s suggestion that groups donate the same amount of items as their group number!

Our Raleigh office got to work and donated a variety of much needed nonperishables like peanut butter, beans, pasta sauce, and canned chicken.

The Virginia Beach office folks enjoyed collecting food from rice and pasta to fan favorites like hazelnut spread!

Our branch offices donated their items to the regional food banks in their communities including North Texas Food Bank, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina, Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, and more.

Our Boulders Richmond office loaded and delivered over 2,300 pounds of food to the Feed More regional warehouse on Rhoadmiller St. near Virginia Union University.

Feed More reports that in our region more than 193,000 of our neighbors are unable to find stability in their food sources, and, of that, more than 47,000 children do not know when their next meal will be.

It is our duty as change agents and do-good catalysts to not only provide solutions to food insecurity, but also to consider how the answers can be durable through times of economic and environmental adversity.

Creating sustainable changes in the food security crisis is a community-wide effort that requires the hands of many neighbors, and Timmons Group is proud to be part of the solution.
