If you have been following along with our blog, then you know Robious Road in Chesterfield County has undergone major changes along the corridor and the project is officially complete! The project widened approximately 4,000 feet of the previous 2-lane road to a 4-lane road starting at James River High School to the Powhatan/Chesterfield County line.
Drivers are now able to travel along two lanes in each direction with new left and right turn lanes throughout the corridor. In addition to these changes, the project also replaced a triple 10- foot by 4- foot box culvert, requiring a complex plan to manage traffic during construction.
The design also added 5-foot sidewalks and bike lanes in each direction to ensure safe and effective travel options for pedestrians whether they are out riding their bikes for fun or taking the dog for a walk.
A traffic signal with luminaries and signalized pedestrian controls was installed at the intersection of Robious Road and Riverdowns Drive, while the intersection of Robious Road and Lenox Forest Drive / Kings Farm Drive was converted from full access to left-in and right-out to satisfy VDOT access management requirements.
Timmons Group also provided utility design, significant private-utility coordination, floodplain design, drainage design, and geotechnical engineering services.
