Landscape Architecture

The Halifax Community Center and Park replaced an aged facility providing a new playground space, basketball court, entry court, and streetscape. The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department tasked our Landscape Architecture team with master planning this updated public space.

The playground is designed around a large existing oak, incorporates an interactive public art installation, and contributes to street identity. The entry court welcomes visitors to the community center and features two islands of native and drought tolerant plantings.

Our staff helped direct a volunteer planting day to install much of the landscape plantings while involving the community. The site plan made pedestrian connections to an adjacent daycare center, play fields, and Halifax Street. The project also incorporates sustainable stormwater management and received LEED Silver certification.

Our team served as a sub-consultant to Clark Nexsen, providing master planning services as well as preparation of construction documents and construction administration.
