There’s no doubt that Richmond’s Union Hill neighborhood has undergone a lot of change in the past several years. One of the latest additions to the neighborhood is The Goodwyn at Union Hill, a 6-building development featuring 52 affordable housing units. Timmons Group’s monthly Commercial Coffee event was located at the Goodwyn, giving industry professionals an inside look at the community.
This Better Housing Coalition (BHC) project is located on Venable Street and includes a historic former community center that was once known as “The House of Happiness.” After sitting vacant for over 20 years, the building has transformed into a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartment homes.
The community features several amenities including porches, off-street parking, a large community space, and convenient access to public transportation. Timmons Group provided civil engineering and landscape architecture services for the project and Walter Parks Architects served as the architect.
The Better Housing Coalition was founded in Richmond in 1988 with a mission to advocate for and create high-quality, affordable housing. The BHC has revitalized/developed several communities in the greater Richmond area and serves over 1,000 residents each year.
In addition to The Goodwyn at Union Hill, Commercial Coffee has toured several other exciting Richmond region projects including Tang & Biscuit, Tabol Brewing, Symbol Apartments, Richmond Volleyball Club, Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) Richmond, the GRTC Pulse, Barber Martin Agency, and Gather. The goal of our Commercial Coffee series is to connect with the community and educate our guests on new projects that are shaping the future of our city.
