FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Timmons Group Releases WetCollect™ Mobile Application to Enhance Wetland Field Data Collection and Improve Reporting Efficiency

Richmond, VA – February 2, 2010 – Timmons Group, an ENR 500 Design Firm and leader in civil and environmental engineering and enterprise geospatial products and services, is pleased to announce the development of WetCollect™, a state-of-the-art mobile application which uses Windows Mobile technology to facilitate collection and processing of wetland delineation field data.

WetCollect logoTimmons Group’s environmental professionals routinely perform wetland delineations for a variety of private, federal, state, and local clients on both small and large tracts of land.  As part of this process, field data on vegetation, hydrology and soils is collected as a requirement of the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) 1987 Wetland Delineation Manual and subsequent Regional Supplements.  This data was previously collected through handwritten field notes which must be manually entered into the appropriate USACE data forms on a computer and then printed out for submission to the USACE with the jurisdictional determination (JD) package.

Timmons Group has been utilizing GPS units to locate wetland flags for mapping purposes for years and recognized the need, as well as the opportunity, to develop an innovative mobile software application capable of improving efficiency across the industry.  WetCollect was developed through a natural collaboration between the environmental and geospatial professionals within Timmons Group.

WetCollect is a software application that will run on any device that operates on a Windows Mobile platform.  It permits the user to collect soils, hydrology and vegetation data in the field in a digital format which corresponds to the correct USACE Regional Supplement data form.  By running WetCollect on a GPS unit, the proper Regional Supplement is automatically selected based on the user’s location, utilizing the lat/long coordinates of the site. In addition, WetCollect contains a complete plant dictionary for all USACE Regions, which is also automatically tailored to the user’s current location..  This plant dictionary is searchable by both common and scientific name and provides the species’ indicator status within the identified Region.  Upon returning to the office, the completed forms are easily uploaded to a secure website where the user has the ability to save the forms to his or her computer in PDF format, email the document, or print the completed forms for submittal with a JD package.

Timmons Group is proud to be a Trimble Business Partner and, as such, is offering the WetCollect software as a bundle with any available Trimble GPS unit.  When WetCollect is utilized with a GPS unit, the location of data stations can be logged and seamlessly imported as points into ArcGIS, AutoCad or other map production software.  Furthermore, when WetCollect is combined with Trimble’s TerraSync or other mobile mapping software, waypoints, wetland flags, and other site data can also be easily collected for import into wetland mapping, further increasing work efficiency.

“The mobile application allows our staff to collect and analyze wetland data more efficiently than conventional methods and is instrumental in meeting clients’ needs, schedule and budget,” says Chris Dodson, Principal of Timmons Group’s Environmental Division.

“WetCollect is designed to make field data collection and USACE reporting simple and concise.  The software package eliminates post-processing and reduces cumbersome back-office workflows,” says Chris Gerecke, Director of Enterprise Solutions for Timmons Group.
